The Department of Geomatics and Land Management will be running a new curriculum from the academic year 2011/12 which starts in August 2011. The new curriculum is a result of series of consultations which involved:
(i) Discussions with stakeholders in workshops
(ii) Visit to Universities in Africa, Europe and Asia
(iii) Review by Experts from international universities and
(vi) Discussion by University organs at various levels.
The new curriculum emphasizes latest developments in the geomatics field and will be predominantly practical based. New advanced courses on Global Navigation Systems, Geographical Information Systems and Satellite Image Analysis have been introduced. The Programme also allows for specialisation in any of the above fields towards the end of the programme.
Through funding by the National Council for Science and Technology under the Millenium Science Initaitive, and through a pledge by H.E. Y K Museveni, the president of the Republic of Uganda, The Department has received equipment and software and this will expose our students to practical aspects of the programme. The new curriculum has resulted into removal of many of the old courses, introduction of new courses and combining others. The name of the New programme will be Bsc Land Surveying and Geomatics.
