
The Department of Geomatics and Land Management at Makerere University’s College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT) bid farewell to Ms. Ngwicarach Pyerina as she retired from active service, celebrating her remarkable contributions to academic and professional growth.

The farewell event, held at the Makerere University Guest House, was attended by staff and colleagues, including Prof. Moses Musinguzi, Principal of CEDAT, who paid tribute to Ms. Pyerina’s dedication and commitment to the department for over two decades. He commended her for her mentorship and professionalism, urging members of the department to keep in touch with her and continue engaging her expertise, noting that she remains part of the Makerere family.

In her remarks, Ms. Ngwicarach Pyerina expressed deep gratitude to Makerere University and the Department of Geomatics and Land Management for the support and solidatiry she enjoyed throughout her career. She reflected on the privilege of mentoring students and working alongside dedicated colleagues, noting that the department had become like a second family to her. Ms. Pyerina thanked the leadership for their guidance and encouragement, and urged staff to continue serving with diligence and integrity. She emphasized her willingness to remain engaged with the department in other capacities, offering her experience and mentorship to future generations.

Representing the Directorate of Human Resources, Ms. Janet Nabukeera extended appreciation for Ms. Pyerina’s service and encouraged staff to embrace ongoing changes in human resource management. She emphasized the importance of adhering to rules and regulations for a smooth stay at the university, adding that Ms. Pyerina’s commendable career should inspire others to diligently fulfill their roles despite evolving accountability demands.

Dr. Lydia Mazzi, Head of the Department of Geomatics and Land Management, praised Ms. Pyerina for fostering strong working relationships with colleagues and students. She noted that the department would strive to emulate her example of diligent service and expressed hope that she would continue supporting the unit and students in other capacities.

Other speakers lauded Ms. Pyerina’s unwavering commitment to excellence, highlighting her significant role in advancing the department’s mission in geomatics and land management. Her retirement was described as the end of an era, but staff expressed confidence that her influence will endure through the many students and professionals she guided during her career as a Technician.
