Kizito Maria Kasule is a distinguished Ugandan artist, scholar, and academic leader whose career exemplifies resilience and intellectual commitment. Having overcome significant socio-economic challenges in his early life, Kasule pursued higher education at Makerere University, where he obtained degrees in sculpture and art history, later advancing his studies with an MFA in painting from the Burren College of Art, National University of Ireland Galway. His scholarly trajectory culminated in a PhD in Art History, positioning him as a leading voice in Ugandan and African art discourse.
Kasule has served Makerere University since 1992, holding key administrative roles including Head of the Department of Fine Art, Dean of the Margaret Trowell School of Industrial and Fine Art and currently, Deputy Principal, College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology. His research and practice engage with themes of cultural identity, abstraction, and social transformation. Beyond academia, he founded the Nagenda International Academy of Art and Design (NIAAD) and Dembe Primary School, institutions that extend his pedagogical vision to broader communities.
