Benard Achellam is an architect and academic serving as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Architecture at the College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT), Makerere University. He teaches undergraduate architecture courses, supervises dissertations, and engages in research and community outreach activities. Alongside his academic role, he is also the Research Lead at Mjini Studio Ltd, where he contributes to innovative projects in urban design and spatial planning.
He holds a Master of Science in Global Urban Development and Planning, a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, and several postgraduate diplomas, including Green Cities for Eco-efficiency and Medellín and Its Transformations from Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana, Colombia. His academic and professional training reflects a strong international perspective on urban transformation, housing, and integrated transportation systems.
His research interests include architecture and design innovation, spatial planning, housing and settlement development, sustainable urbanism, and community-centered approaches to urban transformation. Through his teaching, practice, and research, Achellam contributes to advancing architectural education and shaping resilient, inclusive cities in Uganda and beyond.
