Biography

Dr. Jude Kateete is a Lecturer in the Department of Fine Art at the Margaret Trowell School of Industrial and Fine Arts, College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT), Makerere University. A practicing artist and academic, he integrates studio practice with scholarly inquiry, emphasizing painting, drawing, and visual communication. His teaching philosophy combines technical mastery with conceptual exploration, encouraging students to engage Ugandan cultural narratives alongside global artistic discourses.

Born in Mpigi District in 1974, Dr. Kateete’s early experiences during Uganda’s civil war shaped his sensitivity to themes of resilience and community. His artwork, exhibited locally and internationally, often explores friendship, sound, and visual form, blending acrylics, oils, and watercolors into layered compositions. He has showcased at Afriart Gallery and in international auctions such as Bonhams’ Africa Now. Through teaching, mentorship, and creative practice, Dr. Kateete advances Makerere University’s mission of fostering artistic innovation and cultural dialogue.
