Biography

Dr. Fidelis Nabukenya Matovu is a Lecturer in the Department of Fine Art at the Margaret Trowell School of Industrial and Fine Arts (MTSIFA), College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT), Makerere University. She is both a practicing artist and a researcher whose work emphasizes art as a tool for social commentary and community engagement.

Her doctoral research culminated in a dissemination and exhibition titled Together for Earth: Art as a Social Commentary in Ugandan Civil Society (2025), highlighting the role of visual art in addressing environmental and social issues. She has also participated in collaborative projects with international partners, including the Fulbright Specialist Program, which explored sculpture from found objects and local materials.

Dr. Nabukenya’s teaching and mentorship focus on studio practice, art pedagogy, and the integration of creative research into social transformation. Her work strengthens Makerere University’s mission of advancing artistic innovation and cultural dialogue.
