Biography

Dr. Venny Nakazibwe is a distinguished Ugandan art scholar and educator, renowned for her leadership and research in textile design and art history. She earned her PhD in 2005 from Middlesex University, London, with a dissertation on Bark-cloth of the Baganda People of Southern Uganda, which won the prestigious Roy Sieber Dissertation Award from ACASA in 2007. Her academic journey reflects a deep commitment to preserving and advancing indigenous textile traditions while situating them within global art discourses. Until recently, she served as Deputy Principal, College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology, Makerere University and Dean of the Margaret Trowell School of Industrial and Fine Arts (MTSIFA) at Makerere University, a role she held since 2010. Under her stewardship, MTSIFA strengthened its reputation as a regional hub for fine art, industrial design, and visual communication, fostering international collaborations, exhibitions, and scholarly exchanges. Dr. Nakazibwe’s work continues to inspire innovation in African art education and cultural heritage preservation.
