Research Interests:
Dr. Kabiito Richard is a Ugandan artist, researcher, and Senior Lecturer at Makerere University’s Department of Visual Communication Design and Multimedia, Margaret Trowel School of Industrial and Fine Art (MTSIFA), College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT). He holds a Ph.D. in Art Education from Aalto University, Finland, and both MFA and BFA degrees from Makerere University. His scholarship explores African art histories, geohistorical narratives, and the integration of natural materials such as bark, banana stems, and fibers into contemporary practice. Dr. Kabiito’s research emphasizes sustainability, cultural continuity, and innovation, with a growing interest in digital and AI‑driven art pedagogies. Raised in Kalisizo near Lake Victoria, his rural upbringing continues to inspire his creative work. He has exhibited internationally and delivered lectures, including the Anderson Lecture at Penn State University in 2024. Through teaching, research, and artistic practice, Dr. Kabiito advances dialogue on African art’s global relevance while nurturing the next generation of artists and educators.
