There are nine Halls of Residence available to undergraduate students on the Main Campus. Six of these are for male students (Lumumba, Livingstone, Mitchell, Nkurumah, Nsibirwa, and University Hall); while three are for female students (Africa, Complex, and Mary Stuart).
Makerere University encourages participation in religious activities and has two chapels and a mosque. There are also other places of worship within the University environs.

The College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT) is one of the Colleges of Makerere University as provided in Section 29 0f the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act as amended in 2006. It comprises former Faculties of Technology and the Margaret Trowel School of Industrial and Fine Arts (MTSIFA) and has been operational for 12 years.
Makerere University has a fully fledged Police station with officers from Uganda Police Force working closely with Campus security to maintain security, law and order.
