BiographyDr Brian Makabayi is a surveyor and lecturer who has worked for over 11 years in the Department of Geomatics and Land Management, School of the Built Environment, College of Engineering Design Art and Technology, Makerere University.
He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Surveying in 2011 from Makerere University and a Master’s of Science in Geodesy in 2013 from Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia and a Philosophy in Geodesy from Makerere University graduating in 2022.
He is passionate about ground deformation and has monitored ground deformation and ground strain in the Elgon region using GNSS/GPS and InSAR technologies as a means to safeguard the communities in this region who are susceptible to landslides.
He has 10 years of experience in Land surveying, Geographical Information Systems, Remote Sensing and Engineering surveying. He has participated in research for government and non-government organizations to secure land rights for the urban and rural poor. He has been trained in most fit for purpose tools piloted in the country – SOLA Open Tenure, STDM and CRISP.
