Course Description

The course introduces students to the requisite research and analytical skills for studio practice in the field of fashion design. The students are given individual guidance in undertaking original research and executing original fashion statements drawing inspirations from the natural and cultural environments in their immediate settings and beyond, or from the major historical periods. Emphasis is paid to: visual research and market intelligence; familiarization with the studio-techniques and studio-ethics; and experimental approaches towards generating individual fashion styles. Students develop self-directed and guided learning plans to enable them develop ideas for their collection.

Course Objectives:

The course is designed to:

  • Prepare learners to work independently on a research-driven project in Fashion design.
  • Engage learners in an independent visual enquiry into the resources relevant to the field of fashion design.
  • Enable the learners to carry out practical studies that will lead to original fashion statements in the preferred category (men’s wear, women’s wear, children’s wear, fashion-accessories).
  • Equip learners with the visual tools necessary for artistic self- expression through textiles and fashion.
  • Prepare learners to reflect and write analytically about their creative practice.
