East African Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (EACREEE) seeks a partnership with CEDAT

Makerere University’s College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT) and East African Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (EACREEE) are in talks aimed at identifying key areas for collaboration. The discussions at a meeting held at the CEDAT’s Board room on Thursday 19th September 2024 focused on setting the stage for partnership in innovative research, capacity building, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

The Dean School of Engineering Dr. Dorothy Okello, who represented the Principal CEDAT at the meeting emphasized Makerere University’s commitment to renewable energy and energy efficiency. “Our energy-related research cuts across electrical, mechanical, and civil engineering departments,” said Dr. Dorothy Okello. “We’re eager to collaborate with EACREEE to advance our research and academic programs.”

This partnership aims to promote research collaborations and enhance industry-academia ties through guest lectures, internship opportunities, and project attachments among others. This will help foster innovation and drive growth in the renewable energy and energy efficiency sector. EACREEE will provide industry expertise while Makerere University will provide academic rigor and research capabilities.

Other potential collaboration areas include organizing joint events, developing academic research-based projects in renewable energy and energy efficiency, and equipping labs with modern technology.

“I believe our collaboration can bring significant value to both parties and by working together, we can achieve greater impact and drive growth in renewable energy and energy efficiency sector.” said the Executive Director, EACREEE Canon Goddy Muhanguzi.

As the partnership between EACREEE and Makerere University’s College of Engineering, Design, Art, and Technology gains momentum, the two institutions are set to formalize their collaboration through the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
