BUILDING UGANDA’S INNOVATION PIPELINE

On Tuesday, 21st January 2025, leading stakeholders from the School of Engineering, Makerere University College of Computing & Information Science (MaKCoCIS), Uganda Technology And Management University (UTAMU), Lwera Electronics and Semiconductors, and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation came together to discuss a transformative approach to innovation and entrepreneurship in Uganda.

The PESIC initiative seeks to bridge the gap between academic innovation and market application looking at driving the vision from ideas to development and finally impact. For years, students and researchers have produced outstanding work in isolation, often leaving their ideas unrealized. PESIC proposes a structured pipeline to nurture these innovations, turning them into impactful, scalable products.

Some of the core pillars of this pipeline include; collaboration at the Core, empowering Local Talent like equipping students with world class resources and mentorship, sustainability and Scalability through creating a cohesive ecosystem where ideas mature into market-ready solutions.

At the heart of this discussion was the need to create an ecosystem where innovation thrives. The participants emphasized synchronized collaboration across institutions and the industry, ensuring that ideas are refined with input from multiple disciplines early in their development.

The ultimate goal is to establish a sustainable framework for innovation and entrepreneurship. From concept to prototype and beyond, the pipeline will ensure that innovators receive the support they need at every stage. This approach fosters growth not just for individual projects but for the national economy, strengthening Uganda’s position in the global tech landscape.

The PESIC-Innovations-Productization for Entrepreneurship Pipeline marks the beginning of a new era for Uganda’s innovation ecosystem that could turn untapped potential into tangible impact.
