Our journey began in 2001 as a project within the Faculty of Engineering at Makerere University. Now, two decades later, the Centre for Research in Energy and Energy Conservation (CREEC) continues to pioneer sustainable, renewable energy solutions for Uganda and East Africa. Established as a not-for-profit organization, we offer methodological, technical, and research-driven approaches to renewable energy interventions.
As a trusted advisory body and catalyst for change, CREEC has spent the last 20 years delivering, advocating, and lobbying to enhance access to modern energy across the region. Through partnerships with government entities, donors, private sector stakeholders, individuals, and academic institutions, we implement innovative programs, foster technical expertise, and lead capacity-building initiatives that promote knowledge sharing and support for renewable energy businesses.
We have been recognized by the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) for our commitment to quality management under the ISO 17025 standard.
Areas of focus
The centre focuses on thematic areas of: rural electrification, energy for productive use, energy efficiency, energy for household use, energy testing services and energy entrepreneurship under the two departments: Project engineering and Testing Services.
