Course Description

The course introduces students to the survey of major trends of painting movements in Africa since 1900 with emphasis to East and Africa, Ethiopia and Southern Africa. The painting workshop movements and tourism Art in Africa, the self taught art practices in Africa
Course objectives:

  • To expose the learner to the major trends which have shaped the growth and development of painting in Africa and its effects to Ugandan Contemporary Art. 
  • To enable learners objectively understand and appreciate African paintings within the cultural frame work of African people. 
  • To help learners relate their painting to the general trends of art development in Africa
