Purpose of the Event:

This specific concept note focuses on GGGI project team in partnership with Makerere University mooting the possibility of hosting another one-day national dialogue event, in effect to close the project and launch the new Makerere University Centre for Urban Research, Governance and Innovation on 25th April 2024.

This organization of this milestone event is only possible when the centre has been fully refurbished, furnished, equipped and operationalized. The second benefit is to recognize that the virtual centre with its on-line portal and website are operational. In addition, the training and research materials are readily available in the training and research centre. The sustainability and growth prospects of the Centre should also be well articulated in its business plan with self-financing approach embedded after the project closes out in May 2024.

 Specific Objectives of the Event

  • To conduct national dialogue to raise the new awareness of the urban development challenge in Uganda and the institutional response to meet it – in short, dynamic urban management for dissemination of the research compendium
  • To officially launch the newly established Centre for urban research, governance and innovation
  • To officially close out the project

Expected Participant Numbers.

There are 100 people planned for dialogue and eventual launch of the centre event. This one- day event is budgeted accordingly. The Stakeholders will be invited from academia, press, local government, government ministries, GGGI and other researchers. The list will be provided and approved by Makerere University.

The Programme Activities

The purpose of this national dialogue is to create learning and sharing forum for the invited stakeholders to understand research findings and share experiences, best practices and lessons learnt from both sides in an effortto validate the relevance of the newly created urban research centre and thereafter launch it.
