The Bioresources Innovations Network for Eastern Africa Development (BioInnovate Africa) Programme was established in 2010 with support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) to assist countries in Eastern Africa benefit from the revolutionary advances in biosciences, by converting such technologies into innovations for inclusive growth and sustainable development.

The Programme, now in Phase II (2016-2021), has announced a first call for concept notes with a commitment of USS 5 million over three years to create value for smallholder farming communities in eastern Africa through sustainable bioInnovations. The call is accessible at: http://bioinnovate-africa.org/competitive-calls/, and is intended to support scientists, researchers, innovators and entrepreneurs in eastern Africa’s universities, research institutes and firms to link biobased research ideas and technologies to business and the market.

The eligible countries for the call are Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda. Students and researchers alike are welcome to apply.
