Different But One, the 25th Art Exhibition at MTSIFA

This year’s Different but One Art Exhibition was held in September featuring recent work by the teaching staff at Margaret Trowel School of Industrial and Fine Art (MTSIFA).  It opened on the 19th of September and will run until 19th October 2022.

Being the 25th round, this annual exhibition covers works from all aspects of Art, painting, sculpture, ceramics, fashion, jewelry, weaving, video art and more.

According to Rebeka Uziel, the curator, the exhibition was one of the means of recognizing the departed artists notably Mr. Fred Kizito Kakinda who was a Lecturer, Mr. Jacob Odama as well as General Elly Tumwiine.

‘I’m thankful to you all for your support and trust in the creation of Different But One, that started as an idea floated by me and got propelled by faculty to become a unique concept in the Art World as far as I know’ stated the curator in the catalogue.

Art work for Dr. Venny Nakazibwe

The Ag. Dean MTSIFA Prof. George Kyeyune said Different But One was one of the distinctive features of the Margaret School of Industrial and Fine Art.  He said Different But one provided a platform where the challenges of art as a medium of reflection and its prospects are discussed.  He said the participating scholars not only felt appreciated as contributors to knowledge, but also got closely knit as a family.

He said due to Covid 19, the Different But One events were missed out in the previous years, but appreciated the fact the Silver Jubilee celebrations coincided with the Mak@100 celebrations.

Prof. Kyeune noted that the endurance of Different But One had its foundation in the conviction of its founders who decided that sharing ideas in their different disciplines was academically y and socially  rewarding.  He commended Rebecca Uziel for her resilience in ensuring that she continued supporting the event since its inception in 1995, even when she returned to her home country at the expiry of her husband’s contract.

Participating members include: Rivka Uziel, Maria Kizito Kasule (PhD), Lilian Nabulime (PhD), Dr. Venny Nakazibwe, Prof Philip Kwesiga (PhD), Stephen Gwoktcho, Kasozi Dorah, Bruno Sserunkuuma, Ronald Mpindi (PhD), Assoc Prof George Kyeyune, Nabukenya Federis Matovu, Fred Kizito Kakinda, Nanfuka Joan Kizito,  Assoc.
