EACO/ITSO ICT Conference on Broadband Access for All in East Africa

When: 15 – 19 April 2013, Munyonyo

After realising their initial ICT strategic goals of providing basic ICT services to the public, a number of countries and international organisations are now focusing on strategies for the development of infrastructure for the provision of broadband services. This is as a result of a number of country case studies and research which have clearly shown that there is a positive correlation between broadband and growth in GDP.

Because of the changing ICT environment, regulators and policy makers in East Africa need to think of new tools and strategies which they can use to reshape their national ICT sectors and open up new broadband opportunities in their economies.

It is against this background that the theme of the EACO ICT Conference which is the first of its kind for EACO, should focus on strategies for provision of broadband services to the people of East Africa. Hence, the conference theme is: “Towards Broadband Access for All in East Africa”.
