Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) on May 30, 2016 signed a memorandum of understanting with Makerere Univesity in which the two universities agreed collaborate in the areas of research, staff and student exchange as well as proposal writing.
The Korean delegation met with the management of CEDAT after the signing of the MoU. The MoU was signed by the vice Chancellor, Prof. John Ddumba-Ssentamu on behalf of Makerere University and Prof. Seung Hyeon Moon, the President of Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology.
During the meeting at CEDAT, the teams discussed how best to grow this collaboration.
GIST presented two avenues from which this collaboration can start. One is the Global Internship program and the International Environment Research Centre (IERC).
The International Environment Research Centre internship program
IERC offers internship to postgraduate researchers for 6 months. This offers an opportunity for training in collaboration with the School of environmental Science and Engineering.
Global Internship program
The Global Intern program offers students from countries around the world an opportunity to stay at GIST for about six to eight weeks over the summer to receive training and carry out research. The program accepts undergraduate and graduate students. The Global intern Program will provide skills in the following areas;
- Electrical Engineering and computer Science
- Material Science and engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Earth Science and Environmental Engineering
- Life science
- Physics and Chemistry
- Integrated technology
