Makerere University signs MoU with Halliburton

Makerere University on the 31st of May 2011 signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Halliburton Energy Services group. The signing of this Memorandum of Understanding signifies the commitment and readiness of Makerere University and Halliburton Energy Services to have a strategic partnership aimed at exploiting the opportunities presented by the growing energy sector in Uganda, with specific interest to the discovery of oil and petroleum. The implementation of the activities that will follow from the signing of this MOU will strategically position Makerere University to play a leading role in oil exploration, as a trainer and capacity builder for the critical mass of human resources required by the oil exploration industry. Makerere University together with Halliburton Energy Services are challenged to do all that is within their respective mandates to ensure that the discovery of oil is tagged to promoting the development needs of Uganda. Partnerships such as these, between Makerere and Halliburton seek to advance the Government of Uganda’s development objectives, as laid out in “prosperity for all” programmes. His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has continuously informed Ugandans that it is the oil discovery that will spur Uganda’s economic growth, reduce the poverty levels, and transform their livelihoods.
