Dr. Assumpta Nnaggenda-Musana is a Ugandan architect, urban planner, and academic who serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Architecture at the College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT), Makerere University. She is recognized as the first woman in Uganda to obtain a doctorate in architecture, a milestone that underscores her pioneering role in architectural education and practice.
She studied at Kharkov State University of Civil Engineering and Architecture and later earned her PhD in Architecture from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden. Her teaching and research focus on housing, urban planning, and sustainable architecture, with a particular emphasis on informal settlements, affordable housing, and gender perspectives in urban development.
Her work bridges theory and practice, contributing to strategies for densification, upgrading of informal settlements, and inclusive housing policies. Through her scholarship and mentorship, Dr. Nnaggenda-Musana continues to shape Uganda’s architectural landscape and inspire future generations of architects.
