Biography

Dr. Cosmas Mwikirize is a Ugandan engineer, researcher, and innovation strategist whose career bridges biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, and industrial development. He earned his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Rutgers University, where his research focused on ultrasound imaging for guiding minimally invasive medical procedures. At Makerere University, he lectures in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, contributing to teaching and mentorship in electronics, instrumentation, and applied ICT. Beyond academia, Dr. Mwikirize plays a key role in national innovation policy as Superintendent of Industrial Value Chains Development at Uganda’s Science, Technology and Innovation Secretariat. He also serves on the boards of Innovex, DEI BioPharma Ltd, and the Valley University of Science and Technology, and represents East Africa on the Africa Fulbright Network. His work reflects a commitment to advancing biomedical technologies, strengthening industrial value chains, and shaping science and innovation policy for sustainable development in Africa.
