Biography

Dr. John Richard Otukei is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Geomatics and Land Management at the College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT), Makerere University. He holds a Ph.D. in Geoinformatics from the University of Salzburg, Austria, an M.Sc. in Geographical Information Science, and a B.Sc. in Surveying. His teaching portfolio includes courses in geospatial information management, mapping science, and advanced photogrammetry. Dr. Otukei’s research focuses on remote sensing and GIS applications, particularly land cover change assessment, biomass and carbon estimation, and the use of satellite data for environmental monitoring. He has published widely in international journals, with notable work on decision tree and support vector machine classification, fusion of TerraSAR-X and Landsat data for protected area mapping, and biomass estimation in tropical forests. With over a decade of academic and research experience, he continues to advance geospatial technologies for sustainable land use and environmental conservation.
