Biography

Dr. Jonathan Serugunda is a Lecturer in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Makerere University. He holds advanced degrees in Electrical Engineering and has built a strong academic and research career in wireless communications, 5G technologies, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) networks, and sustainable energy systems. His doctoral and postdoctoral work explored innovative approaches to energy efficiency, autonomous communication systems, and applied engineering solutions.

Dr. Serugunda’s research interests include machine learning-aided optical performance monitoring, service function chain orchestration, energy recovery from municipal solid waste, and next-generation communication networks. He has published widely in peer-reviewed journals and conferences, contributing to both theoretical advancements and practical applications in communication engineering.

As an educator, Dr. Serugunda is committed to mentoring students, fostering innovation, and advancing interdisciplinary research that addresses Uganda’s technological and environmental challenges, while positioning Makerere University as a hub for cutting-edge engineering education.
