Dr. Lilian Namuganyi is a distinguished Ugandan architect and academic serving in the Department of Architecture and Physical Planning at the College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT), Makerere University. She is recognized for her pioneering contributions to architectural education and her emphasis on the relationship between place, space, and lived experiences in urban environments.
She holds a PhD in Architecture, with her doctoral research focusing on how urban dwellers engage with their built environments beyond conventional architectural metrics. Her teaching and mentorship span over three decades, shaping generations of architects and planners in Uganda.
Her research interests include housing and settlement planning, sustainable architecture, cultural identity in design, and participatory urban development. She advocates for design approaches that prioritize human experience, inclusivity, and resilience, positioning architecture as a tool for both social transformation and sustainable urban growth.
