Biography

I am Norbert Mukasa, a Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Makerere University, Uganda. My academic journey includes a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, a Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science, an MSc in Production Engineering, and a PhD in Automation and Control. I further advanced my expertise through a Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). At Makerere, I teach Design of Machine Elements and Control Systems Engineering at the undergraduate level, as well as Robotics at the graduate level.

In addition to teaching, I serve as the eLearning Champion in the School of Engineering. In this role, I support colleagues in adopting blended learning approaches by helping them place teaching materials online, conducting training sessions, and sharing best practices. This work has fueled my passion for digital pedagogy and inspired me to explore innovative solutions to the challenges of engineering education, particularly in delivering complex resources and assessing large cohorts of students efficiently.

My broader vision is to bridge the digital divide between the developed and developing world by promoting inclusive learning. Engineering education in Uganda presents unique challenges due to diverse student backgrounds, varying economic capacities, and the practical nature of laboratory-based training. I am committed to developing tools within learning management systems to address these challenges, while connecting with educators globally and locally who share my passion for advancing engineering education through technology.
