Research Interests: Nanotechnology for Water Treatment, Bio‑adsorbents & Environmental Sustainability, Electrochemical Biosensors, Clean Water Access & Public Health.
Joseph Jjagwe is a Ugandan researcher and a Graduate Fellow at Makerere University’s College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT). He is among the scholars selected under the prestigious “100 PhDs for Africa Program” by the Excellence in Africa initiative, which supports emerging African researchers.
His doctoral research focuses on iron oxide–based nanocomposite bio‑adsorbents for water treatment, aiming to develop innovative solutions for removing pollutants and pathogenic microorganisms from water. This work combines nanotechnology, bio‑adsorbents, and electrochemical biosensors to enhance water purification systems. Jjagwe’s PhD is supervised by Prof. Peter Wilberforce Olupot at Makerere University and co‑supervised by Prof. Sandro Carrara at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland.
His research interests include nanotechnology, water treatment, bio‑nanosensors, and environmental sustainability, reflecting his commitment to solving pressing challenges in clean water access and public health across Africa.
