Emmanuel Wokulira Miyingo is a Lecturer in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology, Makerere University, Uganda. He holds a PhD awarded by the University of Kassel Witzenhausen, Germany after working on the Development of Energy Use Profiles, Reduction Concepts, and Implementation of Renewable Energies in the Central Ugandan Pineapple Processing Chains.
He completed a Master of Science in Renewable Energy and Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering both of Makerere University. His practical experience is related to stand-alone solar system design, installation, and maintenance (e.g. for two health centers in Fort Portal), power generation from medical waste, low cost lighting systems, among others. Relatedly, he was a visiting scholar at University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA, during the 2015-2016 University of Michigan African Presidential Scholars Program (UMAPS) where he worked for six months under mentorship of Prof. Roy Clarke and made a presentation on the design, development, and deployment of energy systems based on renewable energies; which is his major research field.
He has also attended several international conferences such as the launch of the University of Michigan’s STEM-Africa Initiative 2010, Tropentag 2016 and 2017, STEM-V Conference on Appropriate Technology in Africa 2019 at Universsity of Michigan, and has since gained a lot of international exposure. His strong interest is in sharing knowledge and gaining new skills geared towards service to humanity and sustainable living.
