Course Description
The course introduces the student to the design skills of structural elements of construction made of timer and steel, as these are popular construction materials.
Objectives/aim
Students should be able to:
- Appreciate the different approaches to design of structural elements Design simple timber, steel and composite structural elements under different loads Use rules-of-thumb to proportion structural elements
- Understand the structural design process and how it influences the overall design Understand the advantages and disadvantages of using timber and steel as structural materials in buildings
