Course Description:

The course discusses the basic and fundamental principles of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing. It introduces approaches and paradigms for modelling space and how both graphical and attribute data is arranged in layers.

Course Objectives:

This course specifically aims to:

  • Develop an understanding of the basic principles, applications, trends, and pertinent issues of geographic information systems and sciences, including remote sensing (RS), cartography and global navigation satellite systems (GNSS).
  • Develop a foundation in solving basic problems with spatial analysis by using geographic information systems
  • Introduce students to basic principles of satellite remote sensing and satellite image acquisition considerations.
  • Provide students with a broad foundation for future advanced courses in Geographical Information Systems and Remote Sensing
