Course Description:

The course discusses the fundamental principles and theory of physical planning. Key stages of the planning process are discussed. It discusses key sections of the Town and Country Planning Act (1967) and subsequent amendments. The course also gives highlights of settlement development theories and improvement or upgrading of unplanned settlements.

The course specifically aims to:

  • Analyze the basic principles and concepts of physical planning.
  • Enable students appreciate the role of surveying in physical planning and the interdependence between the two disciplines.
  • Analyze the evolution of settlements and the importance of orderly development.
  • To provide a broad foundation for future specialization in the physical planning discipline
