The College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT), Makerere University, has reaffirmed its commitment to upholding examination integrity, transparency and academic excellence during an invigilators’ meeting held on Tuesday, 3rd November 2026, at the CEDAT Conference Hall.
The meeting, convened by the College Management and attended by the Principal, Prof. Moses Musinguzi, Deputy Principal, Associate Prof. Kizito Maria Kasule, Chief Invigilator, Emmanuel Wokulira Miyingo and invigilators, provided a platform to review examination preparedness, strengthen compliance with university examination regulations and address operational challenges affecting the effective administration of examinations.
College Management Emphasizes Examination Integrity

During the meeting, invigilators were reminded of their critical responsibility in safeguarding the credibility of university examinations by ensuring strict adherence to established examination procedures. Particular emphasis was placed on the management of suspected examination malpractice. Invigilators were advised to document evidence of suspected cheating, allow the affected student to continue with the examination and subsequently refer the matter through the appropriate university disciplinary procedures for a fair hearing.
Participants further recommended strengthening preventive measures by reminding students to check their belongings and surrender unauthorized materials before entering examination rooms. Invigilators were encouraged to verify examination permits, conduct appropriate entry checks and work closely with security personnel where necessary. The availability of female invigilators to assist with searches involving female students was also emphasized as an important measure for ensuring dignity, fairness and appropriate examination security.
Invigilators were further cautioned against making decisions beyond their delegated authority, particularly concerning examination permits, tuition-related exceptions and other matters governed by university regulations.
Strengthening Examination Preparation and Moderation

The meeting reviewed the progress made by departments in preparing for the forthcoming examinations, including examination paper submissions, moderation and the processing of continuous assessment results. It was emphasized that it was the responsibility of heads of department to ensure that examinations are properly prepared, moderated and submitted within the prescribed timelines.
Participants called for consistent moderation standards across departments, supported by documented evidence of the moderation process. They also emphasized the need to restrict access to confidential examination materials to authorized personnel to safeguard examination security.
