Makerere University will Host Fourth Fundis Training Workshop

Makerere University’s Department of Urban and Regional Planning at the College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT) will host the Fourth Fundis, Technicians and Artisans Training WorkshoponApril 23–24, 2026 at the CEDAT Conference Hall.

The two‑day event will bring together over 250 masons, builders, metal fabricators, painters, plumbers, and electricians from the Greater Kampala region. The workshop aims to enhance skills in sustainable building design and modern construction technologies, while strengthening collaboration between academia, communities, government, and the private sector.

Key objectives include assessing current skill levels, introducing innovative construction methods, improving knowledge of building codes, and developing leaders in Uganda’s construction sector. An exhibition of building materials from local manufacturers and suppliers will run alongside the training.

Uganda faces a shortage of decent housing and skilled manpower, and this initiative is part of Makerere University’s outreach strategy to empower informal contractors and contribute to national development.
