Makerere University’s Margaret Trowell School of Industrial and Fine Art (MTSIFA), under the College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT), has marked a significant leadership transition with the official handover of the Dean’s office from Assoc. Prof. Amanda Tumusiime to Prof. Stephen Mukiibi.
The handover ceremony, held at the School on Friday, 2 October 2026, recognized Assoc. Prof. Tumusiime’s dedicated service and contributions during her tenure as Dean. It was witnessed by the CEDAT Chief Human Resource Officer, Richard Mugisha, and Eretu Olinge Christopher from the Audit department. Speaking at the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Tumusiime reflected on her tenure, noting that when she assumed office on 14 October 2022, her vision was to transform MTSIFA into a School renowned for excellence in teaching, research, innovation, publication, and postgraduate training. She highlighted several achievements realized during her leadership, including the mobilization of resources to improve the School’s physical environment through the Dr. Amanda Tumusiime Foundation under a Memorandum of Understanding with Makerere University. She noted that these interventions contributed significantly to creating a more conducive teaching and learning environment.

Assoc. Prof. Tumusiime further cited progress in staff and student development, the expansion of strategic partnerships, and the introduction of new academic programs aimed at strengthening the School’s mandate and broadening opportunities for learners and faculty. She attributed these accomplishments to the collective efforts of staff, students, alumni, and development partners who remained committed to advancing the School’s vision.
As he assumed office, Prof. Mukiibi expressed appreciation for the foundation laid by his predecessor and pledged to build upon the gains achieved. He committed to working closely with staff, students, alumni, and partners to further strengthen teaching, research, innovation, and community engagement at the School. The transition marks the beginning of a new chapter for MTSIFA as it continues to pursue its mission of nurturing creative talent, advancing knowledge, and contributing to national development through art, design, and industrial innovation.
