Successfully Completed ERASMUS + Workshop on the Use of Satellite Datasets for Analysis of Atmospheric and Climate Observation (2nd -12th April 2024)

The workshop was funded by the Erasmus+ mobility programme, which aims to strengthen academic cooperation between the two partner universities by sharing know-how in natural disaster management using Geographic Information Science and Systems. Dr. Shahnawaz, a visiting faculty member from ZGIS at the Paris Lodron University of Salzburg in Austria, facilitated the workshop.

The workshop aimed at building the capacity of university-level students and young faculty to use advanced techniques for analysing atmospheric and climatic datasets. Upon completing the training, participants gained ‘hands-on’ experience using Geospatial analysis of satellite-generated atmospheric and climatic datasets to assess various natural hazards and manage the environment. The workshop attracted 60 participants, who mainly included

  1. Graduate students (master’s and PhD) and a few undergraduates drawn from the College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT), the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES), and the College of Natural Sciences.
  2. private sector
  3. Government institutions such as local government such as Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA), Ministry of Lands Housing and Urban Development (MLHUD), National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO), UNOPs
