The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and Makerere University (MUK), the country’s oldest university, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on January 25, 2021 to establish a knowledge and engagement platform for building capacity for present and future leaders in greening urbanization. The MoU was signed by the Uganda Country representative of GGGI and the Principal of the College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology of MUK.
The MoU formalizes the collaboration between GGGI and MUK to establish the university’s Regional Centre for Urban Research, Governance and Innovation. More practically, it is to develop short course training modules on the Greening Urbanization agenda. As such, two specific courses are to be developed in this regard and will focus on (a) applied architecture and urban design and (b) community-based urban and neighborhood planning and enforcement. Furthermore, nine research papers will be produced at the esoteric level.
