Research Validation Workshop Concluded

On 31st July 2023, Makerere University through its Department of Architecture and Physical Planning in partnership with the Global Green Growth Institute organized the Research validation Workshop that took place at Grand Global Hotel, Kikoni, Kampala, Opposite Makerere University, along Sir Apollo Kagwa Road.

The event was graced by Dr. Ronald, the Project Lead, Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI). During his Official Opening Remarks, Dr. Ronald said emphasized the need of reputation risk when organizing events

The Project  Coordinator, Mr. William Eriaku revealed that the purpose of this workshop was to create learning and sharing forum for the invited stakeholders to understand and validate the research findings and also share experiences, best practices and lessons learnt from both sides prior to publication of the compendium and research papers.

While giving his opening remarks, Dr. Kiggundu Amin Tamale, The Head of Department of Architecture and Physical Planning, College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology, Makerere University revealed that research paper presented will be compiled in a research report that will lead to urban policy formulation that meets the meets the need of the day.

He was grateful to the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) for their Greening project that aims at promoting sustainable development and inclusive green growth in Uganda by focusing on green city development, green industrialization, efficient waste management and green growth integration into planning and budgeting. This is to ensure Uganda is achieving maximum benefits from a green growth pathway.

Dr. Kiggundu Amin Tamale, PhD also revealed that Makerere University Kampala, Department of Architecture and Physical Planning with support from GGGI  was establishing a Regional Centre for Urban Research, Governance, and Innovation (MURCURGI)”

He also stressed that the importance of carrying out research for knowledge creation which is core of any university like Makerere University. He also said that research is important for policy making that are relevant to address the real need for urban development. He also revealed that Makerere University is going to establish a knowledge hub that will allow sharing of information from different stakeholders

Dr. Amin  also revealed the papers that were presented were going to going to boast urban development policy formulation. He also said the department is going to start a fully-fledged Urban Center for Research, Governance and Innovation
