Course description:

The course focuses on the goal of sustainable development – which is to enable all people throughout the world to satisfy their basic needs and enjoy a better quality of life, without compromising the quality of life of future generations”. The planning system, which determines the location and form of development, is a key mechanism for delivering sustainable development, both in urban and rural locations. The course further focuses on how to promote the highest quality development and most beneficial land-use changes, in the most appropriate locations at the most appropriate times, and conversely prevent inappropriate, poorly located, poor quality or unnecessary development.

 

Objectives:

  • To introduce students to the ideals of sustainable development
  • To critically assesses the attempts that are being made to develop cities and the countryside in ways that reduce environmental damage and improve quality of life into the future.
