Research and Publications overview

The strategic plan for research at College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology, Makerere University can be summed up simply:

The research enterprise supports College research priorities: Infrastructure and Land, Engineering Materials, Energy, Computer Systems Engineering, Geographical Information Systems, Water Resources and Environmental Engineering, Architecture Planning and Urbanism. We build on our strengths when creating programs, recruiting faculty, purchasing equipment, and supporting interdisciplinary programs. The College research is committed to Enhancing Knowledge Creation and Promoting a Generation of Innovations.

Below is the Research paradigm for the College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology in the different existing departments.

The College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT) is a renowned centre of excellence in the area of technology. The students and lecturers at the College have been involved in research which has greatly contributed to the promotion of the University’s mission-To provide world class innovative teaching, learning, research and services responsive to national and global needs. Our research flourish in institutes, departments and centers. we have records of both previous research and current research done at the college

Several staff members have published in peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings.  Our students have participated in several innovation competitions. One of the groups one won the Vinci Construction award in Anglo speaking Africa and are now competing globally. The Kiira Ev project started as a presentation during an international competition. It is now being commercialized under the Kiira Motors Corporation.

Resource Mobilisation & Collaboration

Research and innovations continue to be some of the major outputs of the College. A lot of work has been undertaken and this is evident in the ever increasing grants received by staff in the College. In the period under review, CEDAT had a number of research projects supported from varied sources. Additional support was received from the Mak RIF

Makerere University College of Engineering, Art and Design, with funding from Makerere University Innovation Fund, has Innovated solutions for water treatment at the point of use.
