The Marconi Research and Innovation Lab at the College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology and the Makerere Artificial Intelligence Lab at the College of Computing and Information Sciences are organizing an AI in Medical Imaging dissemination workshop, which will take place on 17th March 2023 at the College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology Conference Hall, Makerere University.

The purpose of this workshop is to disseminate the findings of our recent research in the Artificial Intelligence in Medical Imaging field. The workshop will be attended by researchers, professionals, policymakers from diverse fields, who will have the opportunity to learn about the findings of the research work and discuss the implications for policy and practice. It will also serve as a forum for mutual understanding, allowing us to better explore the challenges, successes, and how AI and machine learning can be integrated into Uganda’s healthcare system, specifically radiology, and imaging.

The workshop will be divided into presentation sessions and keynote speeches, each dedicated to a presentation and discussion of the research findings, challenges, and best practices. The workshop will focus on several themes:
a) Artificial Intelligence model for prostate cancer detection using Biparametric MRI And
PIRADS classification
b) Automated detection of tuberculosis in chest X-Ray images
c) Deep learning-based classification of lung diseases in Lung ultrasound
d) ArtificiaI Intelligence model for Breast Cancer Classification using Ultrasound images
e) Responsible and Ethical Consideration of using medical data for building AI applications
The workshop intends to host up to 80 participants in person and many more virtually via Zoom.
