CEDAT was recently designated, by the East African Community, as the East African Centre of Excellence for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency.

The  centres’ main objective will be to contribute towards increased access to modern, affordable and reliable energy services, energy security and mitigation of negative externalities of energy systems (such as pollution) by creating an enabling environment for renewable energy and energy efficiency markets and investments.

Part of the activities of the centre will include, to promote all appropriate and sustainable renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies, promote small-scale and medium-scale hydro power projects, and promote Biofuel projects which prove to be sustainable and liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) cooking projects.

EACREEE will support and executes Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency activities and projects which cover one or more EAC Partner States focusing primarily on activities and projects with regional impact or national projects which demonstrate high potential for scaling-up or regional replication.

The launch of the centre will be held at CEDAT on June 10, 2016, and attended by delegates from the 5 East African States.

The Guest of Honour will be the Minister for Energy and Mineral Development.
