‘The Best of Me’ 2023 Art Exhibition opens at MTSIFA

An exhibition by 3rd year students of the Margaret Towel School of Industrial and Fine Art (MTSIFA), College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT) was on Friday 28th July 2023 opened. It will run from the 28th of July to 31st August 2023.

According to the Dean, MTSIFA, Assoc. Prof. Amanda Tumusiime, such an exhibition is the first of its kind at the School and that it will be an annual event henceforth. She said that this will be one of the ways through which the students will be encouraged to do their best.

The Dean, while welcoming guests, staff, alumni and students at the exhibition said the objective of the event was to create awareness amongst stakeholders about what artists can do other than painting.

‘Students did wonderful work. A team of Professors and teachers worked with the students’ she said while introducing the staff and congratulating both the staff and the students for the work that was exhibited.

Dr. Amanda Tumusiime applauded the alumni who came back to the School to participate in the event and urged them to mobilise more of their colleagues to actively ensure that MTSIFA grows to the desired heights.

The occasion was presided over by the Deputy Principal, College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT) Dr. Venny Nakazibwe who represented the Principal Prof. Henry Alinaitwe.

In her remarks, the Principal commended the excellent work done. ‘Thank you our dear students.  This is great work.  This is your accountability for the time you have spent at MTSIFA’, she said while addressing the people that turned up for the exhibition.

She called upon the university community and other stakeholders to take off time to go the exhibition to see as well as buy some items made by the students.  She pledged that the College was ready to support MTSIFA within the available means in ensuring that the event gets better and bigger every passing year.  The Principal emphasized the importance of the event in regard to innovation when she observed that the future of the Country is dependent on the creative pool in different aspects and in this regard, Art.

The colorful exhibition covers works from all aspects of Art, including painting, sculpture, ceramics, fashion, jewelry, weaving, video art and more.
