Aspirants for the positions of Principal and Deputy Principal make public presentations

Candidates seeking to fill the positions of Principal and Deputy Principal at the College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT), Makerere University were this morning 6th July 2023, hosted in a public presentation during which they illustrated their plans of action in propelling the college towards realizing its mandate.

Assoc. Prof. Amanda Tumusiime

Aspiring candidates for the position of Principal were Assoc. Prof. Amanda Tumusiime from Margaret Trowell School of Industrial and Fine Art (MTSIFA), where she is Dean and Assoc. Prof. Moses Musinguzi from the Department of Geomatics and Land Management.

The position of Deputy Principal attracted one person, Assoc. Prof. Kizito Maria Kasule who is also from MTSIFA.

Organized by the University’s search Committee, Public presentations are one of the components of the assessment plan for candidates aspiring to take on leadership roles at Makerere University.

The presentations were moderated by Dr. Julius Kiiza an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration, also a member of Makerere University Senate. It was witnessed by among others, the Vice Chancellor Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe, Outgoing Deputy Principal, Dr. Venny Nakazibwe and a cross section of staff from CEDAT and members of the public.

During the presentations, the candidates expressed commitment to improve the College infrastructure, research, ICT, and resource mobilization. They also committed to strengthen national, international and inter-university collaborations. The candidates pledged to promote learner-centered curriculum teamwork; equal opportunities, and gender equality.  The concern to address issues of sexual harassment featured prominently as well as addressing corruption and providing a favorable working environment for all.

Other key commitments included; enhancing industry partnerships; and ensuring the realization of the College and the University’s objectives as outlined in the strategic plans.
