The College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology, CEDAT was inaugurated in a colourful ceremony at Arirang Restaurant last Friday, 17th February 2012. CEDAT is the first College to be inaugurated, following the official launch of the Makerere University Constituent Colleges by His Excellency President Yoweri Museveni and President Mwai Kibaki of Kenya on the 24th January 2012..
The College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology, is comprised of the School of Engineering, School of The Built Environment and Margaret Trowell School of Industrial and Fine Art (MTSIFA). The Principal of College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology, , Dr. Barnabas Nawangwe, describes this combination as a perfect marriage.
” This marriage is fruitful and was long overdue. We are such a perfect match and have started registering results as witnessed in the beautiful KIIRA EV and many other innovations,” he said.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Finance and Administration, Prof. Tickodri Togboa, urged other Colleges to emulateCollege of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology, .
“It is high time we reviewed our attitudes towards the collegiate system. It is important that all those in the different Colleges re-think this. Let us focus on promoting a shared vision and mission, I look forward to more Colleges being inaugurated,” he emphasized.
The Chairperson of Council, Eng. Wana Etyem, received a certificate of recognition as a former Head of Department of Civil Engineering. The KIIRA EV team was also recognized with a plague, for lifting Makerere’s banner high, with the innovation of Uganda’s first electric car – the KIIRA EV.
“I thank the University Council and members of staff who have found themselves relegated with the Collegiate System, for enduring the changes. I know that with time we will all come on board. We have challenges but let us look at the opportunities the Collegiate system brings and work towards improving it,” said Eng. Wana Etyem. He challenged the management of CEDAT to improve the wanting labs.
A spectacular cake baked in form of the CEDAT New Building, with the KIIRA EV parked in front was served to the guests. Some guests were heard murmuring at this innovation now in form of a cake for all to share, before the sumptuous dinner. It was a memorable way of sharing the KIIRA EV success!
